I hope you are enjoying your Thanksgiving weekend with family and friends with lots of positive thoughts about all that we have to be so thankful for here in Addison.
We still need a few volunteers to help out at the upcoming “Run the Lights” event at Vitruvian Park next Friday afternoon and evening. As of today we have over 700 runners coming to Addison for the fun! Please check out this website and find a way to join in the fun for a good cause. www.runthelights.org
Our next council meeting will be Tuesday evening December 13 with an agenda packed with important subjects for the council’s consideration and decision, including a pay raise for Addison retirees, a possible revision to our current housing policy, as well as a number of items that require our consideration before the end of the year.
Since we have only one Regular council meeting in December, this likely will be a very full agenda. I will share more specifics of that evening’s agenda as we get closer to the meeting date.
I hope you have noticed what is coming down on the south side of Belt Line road just west of Midway?
The old Sam’s big box is in full demolition mode this week and making way for beautiful new town homes as part of the Addison Grove development.
The demolition is expected to be completed by year end and the construction of 57 new town homes will begin in the first quarter of 2017! We will keep you informed of the details as they develop.
On Tuesday morning Director of Economic Development Orlando Campos, Manager of Economic Development Drew Dietrich and I visited one of our very large sales tax generators, Comm Fit at 4651 Sunbelt. President and CEO Jeff Levitt told us that they love being in Addison!
They were previously located in Addison in space that they leased and they love Addison so much they purchased their current location about 2 years ago for their permanent corporate headquarters.
Jeff started the business about 18 years ago and focuses primarily on the commercial fitness business. Many of his clients are apartment developers and commercial building developers that want to provide a very high end work out environment for their residents or tenants.
Jeff told us, “Comm-Fit provides premium fitness equipment as well as an array of economical options to meet a variety of budgets. We offer a turn-key, solution-based approach to each project, and address details upfront to ensure a smooth installation.
We intend to deliver a memorable experience for our clients through thoughtful and innovative design, exceptional fitness equipment and unmatched service.”
They represent some of the most well-known fitness brands such as Cybex, True, TehnoGym, Stages Cycling and Troy, to name just a few. With offices and installations all over Texas, we are very proud that Jeff and his team have chosen Addison as their corporate home!
Alex Horn, head of operations, is pictured here with Orlando and Drew as he conducted a tour of their impressive facility.
Store Manager, Laura, at the Tom Thumb near the intersection of Spring Valley and Marsh Lane tells me two of you responded to our notice here last week about employment opportunities at her store #2643. Congratulations!
Laura still has two spots to fill so give her a call at 972-241-4485. A new job opportunity is truly a Thanksgiving blessing for some folks, so spread the word!
Hopefully you have noticed the new street signs going up all over Town. The new signs are backlit and do a great job of enhancing our Addison brand.
On Thanksgiving morning I slipped by Fire Station #1 and #2 to thank our 15 on duty Firefighter/paramedics for giving us their day to help keep us safe.
Most of our First Responders have families that also give of their day so their fathers, brothers, moms or sisters can help keep our community safe.
Thanks also go out to our Dispatchers and Police Officers that all work as a team keeping Addison safe. Thank you to all of you! … our community appreciates your service and dedication.
I hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend and make plans to join us and help out with our “Run the Lights” event next Friday!
See you soon,
